Department: Administration

The Maine Real Estate & Development Association (MEREDA) will be recognizing the Top 5 Notable Projects for 2011 at their 2012 Spring Conference being held in May.

The Gilman Place Project, in Waterville, was one of five projects chosen that met certain criteria such as "notable" and "significant” in real estate development. The decision to pick this project was also based in part on the following criteria:

Noteworthy & Significant Project Completed in 2011 and fully tenanted.

Environmentally Sustainable

Economic Impact

Energy Efficient

Social Impact; and

Job Creation

This project was completed in April 2011 and involved the transformation of the former Gilman Street School into affordable housing units. The building received extensive renovations outside and in while maintaining the historical integrity of the structure.  As a result, it is noteworthy to mention that this project also received the Maine Preservation 2011 Honor Award for historic preservation in June 2011.

Congratulations to the project developer, Kevin Bunker for all his hard work to make this project a success!
